A Day for the Bay 2013

The very first A Day for the Bay Community event was held on Sunday the 20th January, and all hailed it a grand success!

The project was the brain child of Melbourne Zoo’s very own Wild Sea keeper Sophie Douglas. The education sessions fascinated the kids (and adults) and the clean up yielded 21 bags of rubbish and about 500 meters of discarded fishing line!

The ultimate highlight for organisers was seeing families work their way along the pier and collect fishing waste as interested fisherman quizzed them about what they were up to and even offered to help! A truly inspiring day of action that was far reaching for the local community and the health of the Bay.
