Developers
Act Wild is powered by the Kiani Application Programming Interface (API).
Kiani is named after one of Melbourne Zoo's favourite Orang-utans. She's ace!
What is an API?
An API is a tool to allow you to use the multimedia content of Act Wild (videos, images, text, data) in your own projects using computer programming techniques.
Many popular web services have APIs such as Twitter, Youtube, Flickr, eBay, FourSquare, Bing Maps, Google Maps, Upcoming and Basecamp (to name just a few). Increasingly, government departments are publishing APIs and data sets including the Australian Government and the Victorian Government.
At a basic level, APIs allow users and developers to extend and customise content to suit their own needs.
For instance, you could use the Kiani API to create your own web pages, education projects, blogs, e-books, mobile apps, databases or videos for example. Or let your creativity run wild!
