What Can You Do?

There are nearly 50,000 pieces of plastic floating in every square mile of the world's oceans.

It is estimated that discarded plastic kills up to 1 million sea birds, 100,000 sea mammals and countless fish each year.

Plastics persist in the environment for hundreds of years.

Plastic bags and fishing line are common plastic items that causes wildlife entanglements.

Saying no to plastic bags may seem like a small thing but when you think how long they hang around and how many animals could potentially be harmed by them then it really is a positive action for our marine life. Find out more about our Seal the Loop campaign.

What else can you do?

  • Choose sustainable seafood like Calamari, Oysters and Whiting.
  • When Fishing ensure your discarded line does not end up in the sea.
  • Call our AGL Marine Response Unit on 1300 AGL MRU (1300 245 678) if you see injured marine wildlife
